I'm a junior right now and i've recently decided to be a doctor. What undergraduate majors would be best for the field? Chemistry, biochemistry? Also, which programs/colleges will help me get a jumpstart in the field.

If given these choices: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSF, etc which one is the best one? Also, my parents friend's daughter received this scholarship for UCSF that covers about all four years of postgraduate education. Does anyone
know about that?

I am a total newbie so any information would be greatly appreciated!

What majors? pre-med? biomedical sciences?

bump :)

Well...human sciences would probably prepare someone for the best. But you can major in anything....even classics as long as you take pre-med classes.

UCSF doesn't have undergraduate classes. It is a graduate medical school in it of itself. Its the only UC campus that is dedicated to graduate research. So...
I'm interested in that USCF four year scholarship program. I suppose it guarantees admission too, and its highly competitive. Did she apply for a BA/MD program? Thats awesome Good luck for her!

"Pre-med classes" as in bio/chem classes? Sorry if that makes me sound incredibly uninformed, but like i said, i know little about this subject.

It had something to do with her 31 or 34 on her MCAT's and her super-high GPA at UCB. Now that i think about it, i think it was 8 years of post undergrad education. And she's doing a double-major program too. It's pretty awesome.

blueducky,
You can major in anything you like as long as you complete the premed coursework and take the MCATs. Take a look at the Premed Topics forum for lots of great information and knowledgeable posters (med students who have recently been through the process). Here is a particularly good thread to start with:

Thanks entomom. I started this thread back when i was lazy and didn't really know how to do searches. This thread should be deleted lol
