Choose academics over passions?

I know that sounds bad, but I've been put in the position to choose taking on the most rigorous course load I can, or pursuing my passion for marching band colorguard. It's not a personal choice, it's a decision that has been put on me by my directors. I have to drop some AP classes if I want to march next year... otherwise my senior year marching is a goner. I decided I would choose to take the AP classes because I value my education much more than I value being manipulated by my band directors. Plus I can just start an independent colorguard with my other friends who are getting kicked out, and it can be more fun, and a great experience. What do you think?

I would strongly advise you to continue with your passions, event at the cost of taking a few less APs. Mainly I say so because that’s what I did, and I never regretted it.

I had to choose between band and two AP courses which conflicted with band. I took the regular courses (regular calc and regular science) so that I could keep my music passion up. I got accepted into my top choice competitive college early.

However, if you think you’d rather do a colorguard with your friends than do band/colorguard, then you should do so.

Stick with band. I could have taken another AP class this year, but I refused to drop orchestra. I don’t regret it one bit.

Pick band

10char

The thing is, I’m not enjoying band anymore… my band directors are *******s and treat my colorguard like crap. Our adult leadership is never there to help us, and we’re always the last to know anything. It’s not fun for anyone, and there isn’t even a need to quit my AP classes for it. They just want everyone to take the marching band class, which I can’t do, because my classes don’t allow for it. And I’ve been in that class for 3 years, and not once did we actually do something productive. Our band directors don’t even care what we do.

All they want is for us to be the best, but that won’t happen. We practice 5 days a week until 5 T-F and for a couple hours on Saturday mornings. It takes up way too much of my time for no good reason…

^then don’t do it…simple as that. If your’e not enjoying it, then DONT DO IT. Academics is much more important that doing something you dont like…

maybe find another band somewhere…

No. Pursue academics over passions/vocations. You’ll be patting yourself on the back when you graduate.

If you’re not enjoying it, quit.

I agree. If you aren’t enjoying band, then quit. Also, sometimes academics does come over your passions, and in this case you should definitely go with academics…
