Choosing a Comp Sci school.

Ok I am currently a Sophmore so I still have a couple of years before I making a final decision. But I wanted to know peoples opinions about different schools: Which school do you think is better? Which schools are more worked up than they are? And other things like this.

I currently am thinking of these colleges as my main focus:

Georgia Tech
Full Sail
Berkely

Please help me with this, I want to know which schools are better for the Game Development field (this is my goal). I wanted to create 3D games such as ROSE Online and World of Warcraft. Ever since I got my little hands on a computer around the age of 10 I have wanted to dev, and I am going to :)

Also I have heard controversy over Full Sail, someone please give me your thoughts on this school, I have heard its a VERY good school IF you can put it the work as it is incredibly fast paced.

Thank You;
James

Hmm if you want to get a job straight out of undergrad, the schools I would suggest in California in addition to Berkeley are Cal Poly and USC. Cal poly has a strong reputation in computer science and one of the best job placement rates in this state, though I'm not sure how well it is for the game industry. I believe we are starting a digital entertainment minor in a couple of years. USC has good connections with company's in the LA area, which is nice because there are some good video game developers based in LA and its surrounding area (Activision, Pandemic).

Hope this helps

Real video game addicts go to DigiPen. They have a pre-college summer program specifically for computer programming and game design if you want to check it out:

https://workshops.digipen.edu/index.php?id=11

CMU. (10 char)

Instead of Full Sail, which has a reputation, I'd put Digipen on your list.

Rochester Institute of Technology offers a bachelor's in game design.

isnt digipin a mac based program though?

Not a college, but you should check the Game Institute's curriculum for game developers out.

http://www.gameinstitute.com/courses.php

It's Berkeley, not Berkely. MIT, CMU, Stanford, and Berkeley are top in CS.

Ughh, no. DigiPen. Google it.

I'd beware of "specialty" schools like Full Sail. If you ever decide you want to do something besides game development, you're kind of screwed.

Virgil your the only one thats said much thats helpful. So answer me this please,

I went to the DigiPen website and looked at their BSRTIS (Bachelors of Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation) program.

Here is a list of the course sequence for the program ( http://www.digipen.edu/main/BSRTIS_Sequence )

Can you please have a look at this and tell me what you think? It doesnt come across as one of those "specialty" schools to me. And later on after I get my Bachelors I can return to get a Masters in Computer Science.

Thanks,
James

How did your username change from JB~ to ~JB?

^ He obviously forgot his original user name and password. :p

USC may be among the best in game development. While CS at USC is very good, the game development major, both BS and MS, also benefit from strong departments at Film, Communication, and other. http://gamepipe.usc.edu/ is a very good place to start your inquiry.

Good luck!

Yeah I forgot my password lol so i went to change it and it got all messed up and now it doesnt work :(
