Choosing a Dining Plan

Can anyone clarify for me what the Denton Meals portion of the dining plan is? This is the description form the website:

•Denton Meals: Each Meal will get you one trip through the door of the new Denton Dining Hall. Inside, you can visit every station and enjoy all delicious cuisine you desire.

I interpret this as "all you can eat" vs. a la carte...correct? But, the Resident Dining Plan chart shows that you only get 16 Denton Meals. Does this mean you can only use this option 16 times per semester...then the rest comes out of Resident Points and Terp Bucks?

LucyLou, this is new to all of us. The Denton Dining Hall is new and will open for Fall 2011. I think they may be trying different systems to see what works and what doesn’t. We will all be confused together. :)

The Denton Dining Hall is was recently renovated. I had an opportunity to take a tour of it at the end of last semester, and it looks like it’s going to be pretty nice (comparatively speaking). It is an “all you can eat” style (as opposed to the Diner or South Campus Dining Hall, which are both a la carte), and will only be open for dinner hours (5-8 or something like that) during the first semester, at least, I believe.

I can’t speak for the limitation for how often you can use it, since it is so new, but it does seem like it gives you the option to eat there 16 times during the semester.

Does anyone have any idea what the point of opening a dining hall about a thousand feet from the Diner is?

^ I think they thought the Diner would get too crowded and so did a “virtual” expansion of the Diner. Oakland will really change things. I hope it works.

Thanks for the info!

There was a little blurb about the “…all new buffet or all you can eat style dining…” in the area where you pick your meal plan when you confirm housing and dining. It does seem a litttle odd that the maximum number of Denton Meals is 16 on any level plan you choose?? Oh well…we will see :)
