I'm applying to UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins, but I'm thinking of applying as undecided instead of a bioengineering major because of my low math SAT II score (630). Would this affect my chances of getting into these schools if I changed my major?

Changing your major to undecided will have no impact at all. The only time a chosen major impacts your chances of acceptance is when you indicate that you are majoring in something they don’t offer (and you write an essay on why this is your life’s passion), or you can build a very credible case that you are going to major in a dept. in which they have very few students and a lot of tenured faculty. Schools know that people change their minds all the time.

Your chosen major definitely affects your chances of admissions at Berkeley. If you apply undecided, that would mean Letters & Science, which is easier to get into than the College of Engineering, but it is very difficult to transfer into Engineering later. You can also apply Engineering - Undeclared, but I don’t think that would be any better for your crappy SAT II, and it is very competitive. The easiest majors to get into in the school of Engineering are Civil and Mechanical, while the hardest are EECS, Bio, and undeclared.
