What would the best major be for someone who had aspirations to work at a high end consulting firm like mckinsey or bain?

the question to ask really isn’t so much what the best major is, but rather the best school you should attend with the best connections. I’d predict that major-wise, most firms would like people with a background in business and math (quant skills are becoming more in-demand), but even if you get a 4.0 in EE, it will be really hard to get a job in MC if you go to a state school. Hell, consulting is so hard in general to get into from undergrad that even a 3.8+ at Harvard will have to have some luck to secure a spot, especially in this economy.

People who major in economic consulting at my school have pretty good job placement with top consulting companies.
