Choosing a Major in College

I want to be a teacher when I grow up. I love english & social studies, but I hate math & science. What's a good major & minor for me?

I know that teachers at elementary/middle/high schools are underpaid. Is there any kind of teaching job that can attain a higher salary?

Please help! Thank you!

Well, you should major in English. Lol. The only well-paid teachers are acctualy professors at the very top colleges (HYP and Stanford etc. etc.) So yeah, major in English and then go for the Masters, Phd and then maybe divinity.

I believe you will find the market for English PhD’s pretty poor. Supply way out paces demand. Teach because you like it, not for money and be happy.

Public school teachers are horribly underpaid, but they can get excellent benefits (though not always).

I wouldn’t say public school teachers are underpaid. In North Carolina, a first year teacher with a bachelor’s degree earns $30,430 plus benefits for ten months of work. Salary increases for every year of experience. Throw in a master’s degree, NBPTS certification, or any other various addition and you are looking at additional several K per year. Private school counterparts often earn a substantially lower salary and often times no medical benefits.

Teachers in my district and area make $90K a year.

English and history as your major or minor. You could always try to be a professor.

Is this the salary for experienced teachers (25+) years and what state?

I don’t know about a higher salary, but you can get your entire education paid for if you choose to teach, and/or your student loans paid off.

I dont think it’s for 25+ years. SEPA

diontechristmas…what kind of teacher are you talking about that makes 90K each year?’
I really want to teach KIDS specifically just because I love kids…but do you guys know if there is any way I can teach kids in SOMETHING but still make a good salary?
Thank you.

be a college professor, that way the people in the class might actually , “might”, want to be there.

and the pay is higher.

and its very respectable.
nothing to be scoffed at.

only difference is that your “kids” may have beards

Haha.
Yes, I’ve thought about becoming a college professor. In fact, that is my dream career. The only thing is that I don’t think I am qualified because college professors are all VERY VERY smart. And…I’m not :frowning:
But thanks, nonetheless!

With a master’s in education, and after 20-25 years, 60-70K is very possible as an elementary/secondary school teacher. A good paying salary as a college professor is much more difficult to come by than good salary as a elementary/secondary school teacher.
