Well, you should major in English. Lol. The only well-paid teachers are acctualy professors at the very top colleges (HYP and Stanford etc. etc.) So yeah, major in English and then go for the Masters, Phd and then maybe divinity.

I believe you will find the market for English PhD’s pretty poor. Supply way out paces demand. Teach because you like it, not for money and be happy.

I wouldn’t say public school teachers are underpaid. In North Carolina, a first year teacher with a bachelor’s degree earns $30,430 plus benefits for ten months of work. Salary increases for every year of experience. Throw in a master’s degree, NBPTS certification, or any other various addition and you are looking at additional several K per year. Private school counterparts often earn a substantially lower salary and often times no medical benefits.

diontechristmas…what kind of teacher are you talking about that makes 90K each year?’
I really want to teach KIDS specifically just because I love kids…but do you guys know if there is any way I can teach kids in SOMETHING but still make a good salary?
Thank you.

Haha.
Yes, I’ve thought about becoming a college professor. In fact, that is my dream career. The only thing is that I don’t think I am qualified because college professors are all VERY VERY smart. And…I’m not
But thanks, nonetheless!

With a master’s in education, and after 20-25 years, 60-70K is very possible as an elementary/secondary school teacher. A good paying salary as a college professor is much more difficult to come by than good salary as a elementary/secondary school teacher.
