Choosing A Major.

I'm having trouble deciding what I want to do. I'm a freshman and I was planning on applying to Ross in March, but I'm not so sure anymore. I want to do premed but everyone is telling me not to.

Is it as hard as everyone says it is? Should I just stick to business? Although I know it isn't guaranteed that I'll get into Ross in the first place.

Also, if I want to apply, what do I have to do? Do I have to go to the information sessions or can I just submit my essay in March?

Well, predmed isn't a major at Umich, so it depends what you are interested in.

What do you mean 'people say its hard'. Those people might be dumb****s.

I know it isn't a major, but Ill still have to take certain classes, etc. I'm interested in medicine but it's kind of dispirting when people are always telling me I might not be able to do it. I know they're just looking out for my best interests but I really dont want to get in over my head. What do you think?

I think you should ignore what other people say and shoot for the moon! If you want to study medicine, then go for it.

I'm in the same situation as you. I really want to do medicine, but then again, I hear everyone saying its so hard. I think I will stick with it for now, though.

Thanks for your help :) I think Ill go for it. CCRunner123: Are you a freshman too? What is your other option? (If you dont do premed).

yeah, im a freshman, my second choice would be business as well, good luck! maybe ill see you around sometime haha, but business is probably just as difficult and time consuming as medicine.

If you're thinking about doing a premed-type path but aren't sure if you can cut it, make sure you find out sooner as opposed to later. It's not a very good situation if you don't find out you can't pass orgo/calc/physics until sometime sophomore year and have to find something new.

CCRunner123: Good luck to you too! We should talk sometime, we're dealing with exactly the same problem... I hope you figure it out soon.

Dilsky: Do you think I should take calculus, econ, and two pre-med type classes next semester, apply to the business school anyway, then see what happens?

I think that sounds like a pretty good plan, unless you think it would be too much of a workload. Even if you end up not doing business school, you could use calc and econ for distribution requirements.

I wouldnt mind the workload, I enjoy a good challenge. Also, since they are all subjects I generally enjoy, it shouldn't be too bad. I think I'll give it a try and hopefully it'll work out for the best. Thanks for your help!
