I am currently a sophomore and biology major. Recently, I was accepted NSF REU programs for this summer. One is in molecular biology at Ohio State (Columbus), the other is called IDREHSI (Interdisciplinary research experience in hyperspectral imaging), at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and in my case would be computer science related.
Now, I haven’t taken any comp sci yet but I was told this is fine as the mentor and I will work out a solid project that I can manage with my level of experience. I’m considering minoring in CSci or perhaps doing a bioinformatics concentration, so I’m kind of leaning towards that program. I’m already doing nano science research at my home institution. I might also add I’m from NYC so I was, among other things, looking for a different experience from the REU (more small college town feel I guess).
Has anyone here been part of one of these programs? No matter which one I choose can one “go wrong” with REUs so to speak? I’m excited nevertheless…
