Choosing Between UCD and UCSD

I’ve been accepted to my two top choice schools ucd and ucsd. I applied to both schools as an Econ major. However, I was not accepted as an Econ major at UCSD. I was accepted as a Poli Sci/ Public Policy major…

I prefer UCSD because it’s sorta my dream school but I don’t really like the idea of getting my degree in poli sci. I think it would be a better investment of my money and loans that I will be taking out if I major in Econ.

So, I was accepted as an Econ major at Davis and I think it’s a great school BUT, I live about 6 1/2 hours away. From UCSD, I live a little less than two hours.

Another thing, UCD is giving me about $3,500 more in grants. That’s definetely something else to take into consideration. Idk. I really love UCSD’s campus…

Any advice would definetely be appreciated!
ALSO, plz plz plz don’t comment “why are you posting this if you’re going to do whatever you want? you’re going to base your future of a college thread?”, because yes I will ultimately make my decision but I really want advice because I’m stressed enough as it is. Thank you!

6 1/2 hours away should not enter into your consideration, not at all, not the tiniest bit. Consider the other issues.

okay edit: I have a dog and I would like to see him at least every two weeks

(joking)

If your finances allow, and if your interest in Poli Sci/Pub Pol is substantial then go to your dream school. Examine your post graduate options and plans to decide between majors (and schools). What college at UCSD? I graduated with Poli Sci from Revelle. Best of luck.

@Disney64 Muir and thank you!

Econ shouldn’t be hard to switch into. It is is impacted but not like CS.

2.5 is definitely manageable. I’d confirm this first to see whether you can switch in as a transfer though.

Also, in counter to @vonlost distance may matter. If you are someone who may feel homesick, has responsibilities at home etc. Living closer has its benefits. The ability to go home on the weekends is underrated.

Go to the dream school. You’ve worked hard to accomplish this. Don’t let a few thousand dollars be the difference. That’ll be a drop in the bucket when you look back at this decision years from now. Being far from home is great too. You’ll get a chance to be around another culture and forced to widen your personal circles.
