Is it common practice for school counselors to regulate, and then often prevent a student from applying, to certain colleges? My counselor looked through my college list and trimmed out all my low-reaches. She says it's embarrassing for the school if I get rejected, and she refused to sign the counselor supplements. Is this normal, or does this just happen at my school?

That actually sounds illegal.

edit: I see you are an international student. Still, look into that.

How odd!

It’s not like she can guarantee that you’ll be admitted to your better choices!

I’d have your parents talk to her and the administration.

My parents tried extremely hard, and she has let me apply to one of my reach colleges, and now I have to apply to 11 safeties. <_<

Apparently the school gets a list of rejects from each college, and it’s embarassing for her if she shows the list to the principal. So she’s preventing students from applying there completely. Most parents don’t complain because they’re totally dependent on her. They don’t know anything about US admissions, so if they get on her evil side they’re completely screwed.

Get her straighted up with the power of a slap to the face lol
