My college counselor limited the amount of schools I can apply to. She is cutting the limit at 12. I have 15 on my list. She is refusing to submit my transcripts to the school. Is there anything I can do about this, or should I cut my losses?
Is the limit of 12 a known, school-wide policy? Or a recent change? Unique to you?
If not an existing known policy for all, perhaps get your parent involved.
Why are you applying to 15 schools…are you looking for merit $?
The limit is a school-wide policy, but I was unaware of it until the college process started. The 15 schools just got narrowed down to 14, but they’re mainly from pressure from parents to apply.
If it is a policy that has been clearly laid out, although I don’t agree with it, there is probably little you can do about it.
Is there a legitimate reason for wanting to submit more than 12 apps? A legitimate reason is most likely to be that you need to compare financial aid offers, or you are looking for a lot of merit aid. If that’s the case, then I suggest you contact the head of the guidance department and explain. If you’re simply trying your luck at bunch of different schools, that’s more of an exercise in vanity and I can see why the counselor is refusing. Your parents pressuring you is unfair. Simply tell them the counselor has a limit of 12. End of story.
FWIW, the counselor is sensible and I wish all counselors had a limit like that.
Thank you all for the advice!
