I suck at maths, and by suck i mean i was always the dumbest kid in class when it comes to maths, but i really love econ. previously i thought that econ doesnt require that much maths but the more i hear researched about econ major, people are saying that maths is really important. now my question is should i take econ as my major or should i just give up about taking it as my major and do business instead? however i really want to do econ as major is it possible if i suck at maths? i would be willing to put in the hard work for studying the maths assuming the university provides the help. what should i do. please help
Math is Practice. I don’t believe anyone is necessarily born good at math (but some people can pick up on it faster for different reasons). I am an engineering major and am not naturally good at math. however i haven’t gotten too far into the curriculum yet because I just got to a freshman engineering curriculum after taking remedial math courses because I never took calculus or even some of those lower level math courses in HS but I believe with hard work and persistence i can do it (and so can you!).
Make sure you have a good professor for each math course you take by going to and looking each professors name up at ratemyprofessors or talking to other students at your school. go to tutoring and/or professor office hours every week, watch videos (PatrickJMT, professor leonard, and Khan academy are good), and practice until you can do problems without looking at your notes of relying on anything else. Make an individualized math practice account with Khan academy and complete it until you get to what class you are in because you may be missing something fundamental knowledge you need to know. Another option may be to take some remedial math courses like intermediate or college algebra before taking calculus.
different economics majors at different schools have different requirements in math whether that is a B.A, B.S, or business focus.
