Choosing Right Dorm and What to Bring

Hi! I have few questions on choosing right dorm and what to bring to dorm.

What is difference between suites and halls format?

If I want a quiet, not party oriented dorm, then is Sullivan Hall a right choose? I looked at all the halls in the NC State, and I liked the Sullivan Hall the most because the rooms there seems big

Should I bring laptop or desktop?

Should I bring a printer?
5.Should I buy mini safe for my dorm?

Who is upper-class student?

Do I need wifi router?

Thank You

Also, do I need to bring microwave?

Based on experience of S this past year, I’ll try to help

1. What is difference between suites and halls format?
Hall is more of a “traditional” dorm. Think long hall with rooms and a shared bath. The suites are clusters of rooms with a shared bath. The housing website has some good images of the suite layouts. One difference at State, compared to a lot of schools is that there is not a common living area within each suite

2. If I want a quiet, not party oriented dorm, then is Sullivan Hall a right choose? I looked at all the halls in the NC State, and I liked the Sullivan Hall the most because the rooms there seems big
For non-party, I can’t really address this. My gut says this is limited anyway since State is officially a dry campus. Yes, the rooms in sullivan are a little bigger than the tri-towers, but they are probably very close to the other two dorms on that end of campus (Lee? Bragaw?) I will add that S was planning a move to Bragaw from Metcalf for next year, but decided against it, and his primary reason was that all the suite doors open to the outside, and are locked and he likes to be able to move around the dorm without having to worry about the weather, and the suite doors in Metcalf are not locked.
**3. Should I bring laptop or desktop? **
If you are buying something, get a laptop.
4. Should I bring a printer?
I would say yes, coordinate with your roommate. S has a wireless/networked printer and roommate brought a router
5.Should I buy mini safe for my dorm?
Maybe, A lot of the rooms have a lockable drawer/cabinet in one of the pieces of furniture. S did and just put a pad lock on it.
6. Who is upper-class student?
I am guessing that this is in reference to some of the dorms being for “upper class” students. I think this means non-freshman in most cases, but could mean at least a Junior.
7. Do I need wifi router?
The dorms do not have wireless. So if you want it, then bring it, See #4.
Do I need to bring microwave?
Nope, the rooms all have a fridge/microwave combo unit.
