Hey guys,
I’m in my junior year of an EE program.
I’m having trouble choosing between electronics and power as an emphasis for my senior project.
I will be taking courses in both emphasis, but the only difference is I will only have time to do a senior project in one of them.
My situation right now, is that I have a job lined up in Power and very strong connections in the industry. But, electronics seems a lot more interesting…
IT seems like power engineering simply deals with generation/transmission/distribution of power. And I cannot see much innovation in this field…It seems like the best innovation would be to reduce power loss during transmission…but that’s not all that exciting.
I’ve looked online and haven’t found very many statistics.
I think I will just leave it to the job prospects…Which field has more engineers? I cannot find this information online…I mean, if electronics has 100k egineers vs 16k power engineers, then it’s obvious which of the two will have more room to grow.
