I got spring admit to Berkleley which I declined their offer because I want to start in the Fall instead of the spring.

My major is psychology and I am wondering if It would be a foolish idea to choose uc davis over UCLA for this major.

Thanks!

There’s generally nothing wrong with choosing Davis over UCLA. What’s the reason – cost? Proximity to home? Study environment? Just curious.

most likely study environment

Pianoko916, I admire you for standing up for what you truly believe in and your own priorities!

Prestige is clearly overrated, which you seem to know. You’ll also find lots of peers at Davis that are more capable than many UCLA students.

UCLA/Cal are overrated in the undergraduate level. Iono if both of those schools are somewhat cutthroat.

Most likely I may apply to those schools when Im in grad school.

Yes, grad school definitely counts for more. Out of curiosity what’s your major and career ideas?

clinical psychology or counseling psych.

Well, which school are you more excited about? Have you already visited them both?

You’re not crazy I’m thinking the same thing. I’m visiting both campuses next weekend but there is a very good chance I’m going to pick Davis over LA.

Not foolish at all; it’s your education and hopefully, it is a personal decision where one chooses to go to college, especially transfers. Both schools have the medical facilities you desire unlike Cal. And you’re from Sac right? Is proximity to home a factor?

I am torn between the two :/

I will tour UCLA in two weeks

^ Good luck to you! I’m really torn between them both, hopefully after I see them both next weekend it will help me make the right choice.

I too am having second thoughts about passing up Davis…I hung out on their campus for the first time with some buddies and I have to say…it’s really everything you think of when you hear the word “college.” Plus I’d save a ton of $ staying in Sac.

Gonna check out UCLA for the first time in two weeks and make a decision after that ~

P.S. I also passed up Cal since they only offered me spring admission :(

I got spring admit at Cal but I didnt want to start my upper division classes so late. Its more ideal for me to start in the fall instead of a semester behind everyone else.

taylor- I am going to UCLA either on the 20th of may at 215pm or on the 27th of may.

Look into the specific research projects being done by professors in the relevant department at UCD and at UCLA. Since you’re planning to continue to grad school, it’s to your benefit to be doing some undergraduate research, and the more interested you are in the particular project the better your experience will be all-around. You’ll be more likely to develop a strong relationship with the faculty involved in the research project, more likely to get really great letters of rec, more likely to know in detail precisely what grad research you’re interested in, and more likely to be able to write enthusiastically about your experiences on your grad school applications.

It may be that there are a few really cool projects at one school, but you don’t find anything that particularly grabs you at the other. That would make your decision much easier, wouldn’t it?

ouch! I never thought that you would have second thoughts about going to UCLA, since this was your first choice eva.

nero103- Cosidering that I got spring admit to Cal. I didnt want to start a semester later than everyone else.

I never got the Berkeley financial aid emails and still got spring admit. I dont know if i was a borderline candidate for Cal psychology.

I will tour UCLA and make up my mind then. I am still recovering from all of the UCLA and Berkeley admission hysteria.

I don’t blame you. I’m 99% sure I will choose UCI over UCLA. There’s just something about it. Sometimes a school just fits…
