Choosing which tense?!?!

Rachel [was able] to make her high school's varsity cross country team [as a freshman] because [she ran] 5 miles every morning and [had done] 100 sit-ups a day. [No error]

The error is either C or D -- they disagree with each other and so one of them should be changed. I think changing D would be the best option to change for clarity in this sentence.

Didn't you post this already somewhere else?

Ya, but nobody answered...plus it was bunched with a whole bunch of other stuff that I already figured out shortly after posting them.

its C, she ran to "had ran"

or change "had done" to "did"

I think it's C
"because she had to run 5 miles every morning and had done 100 sit ups a day"

or D
"because she ran 5 miles every morning and did 100 sit ups a day."

C or D?? which one is it averagezn????

It's D, but I don't see why it can't be C. I picked D just because I thought it sounded better to change it to "did", however, error IDs don't test for what sounds "stylistically better" so I think it's PR's fault.

are these kind of questions that common in PR?

C is wrong because the running is done in the past, before she made the team, so it should be had run. Also, it needs to be parrallel with D, so D is correct.

is D the official answer provided in the answer key?

Yes, D is the official answer. However, I feel that C can also be correct and so I posted to get some insights on why the answer is the answer.

its obvious its D trust ur ears

Rachel [was able] to make her high school's varsity cross country team [as a freshman] because [she ran] 5 miles every morning and [had done] 100 sit-ups a day. [No error]

C for sure. It's in the past perfect tense I think. Therefore, should be Had Run. Because it happened in the past. I can give you a lot more grammar feedback if you want. PM me if needed :)

if you had read up there by averageazn, "Yes, D is the official answer. However, I feel that C can also be correct" why would u say " C for sure."? D IS THE OFFICIAL ANSWER IN THE BOOK. R u surer than the book?
