Choral conducting for a nonmusic major only a dream?

My situation is unique in that I already hold a nonmusic degree, but have a dream of becoming a director of church music and learn choral conducting. As a trained singer, I was accepted into WCC undergraduate program for the fall, my dream choral conducting program, with a 10k transfer scholarship, but will most likely have to forfit going based on living expenses, etc. I know there are good options in my home state of Texas, but my heart is so set on WCC that I am not sure which route to go, or where to begin.

One consideration would be to take the necessary conducting / theory coursework at UNT or UT, and then apply to sacred music graduate programs out-of-state...in which case, money would be a whole other issue. Any helpful advice would be much appreciated!

Cleopatra - UT Austin has a top-notch music school with a very strong choral/choral conducting program. If it’s a more practical place for you financially than WCC, you should seriously consider it. It would certainly set you up to compete for graduate programs as well as if you were coming from WCC.
