Christian Premed/med school

Hi, I'm looking for colleges that have a 7 or 8 year undergraduate/med school program with guaranteed or provisional acceptance. I've found some good ones but I'm really interested in going to a christian college (a real christian college not ones that just claim to be) so I was wondering if there were any that had something like this. I'm okay with the med school part being at a non christian school I just really want the undergraduate part to be christian. Thanks so much and hopefully that all made sense!

I’m not sure where around your looking for schools at, but Baylor University has a great program i hear. It is a Christian school as well. I have heard nothing but great things about this school, i plan to go there as well. They have a program called Baylor2 Medical Track, its a combined 8-year baccalaureate/MD program. You have to be a pretty outstanding high school student to get a spot in the program because they only pick 6 upon matriculation to Baylor University. Also, 1 out of the 6 students receives a $80,000 scholarship. $10,000 a year for all 8 years.

Okay thank you! Also, I’m ranked first in my class with a 4.1 weighted GPA but I don’t have a whole lot of medical experience. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to fix that? I live in the middle of nowhere so most of the local hospitals are over half an hour away which I know doesn’t sounding a lot but I don’t want to make my parents drive me that far especially for just volunteering. If nothing else it could work but if there is something else I could do for medical experience that would be preferred.

Try research camp at university in coming summers. You should also have a high SAT to be in this competitive program. It doesn’t have a binding to Bayor medical school, meaning you can apply to other medical schools. (You can still go to Baylor medical school if you are not accepted by others. But there is no reason to go to other medical schools.) I heard a kid chose it over Harvard. If you will be NMF with high SAT/GPA, the cost of UG will be free.

If you don’t have a whole lot of medical experience, how do you know you want to be a doctor? The vast majority of pre-meds discover during undergrad that they’re better suited for/more interested in other fields. Try posting over in the pre-med/medical school forum-- I believe many of them would tell you that lots of medical experience is needed to determine whether you’re a good fit for the career, let alone whether you’ll be accepted to a combined program. Better to gain a broad exposure to the liberal arts in undergrad before locking yourself into the 7/8 year med, IMO.

For just undergrad, Wheaton (IL) is excellent. I have also heard good things about Westmont’s preprofessional programs.

Houghton College has just announced an affiliation with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) that will grant early acceptance for up to 15 Houghton students per year into LECOM’s associated schools of medicine, dentistry or pharmacy provided they meet certain academic criteria.
