<p>I just stumbled across these forums while looking for colleges for my daughter. I am hoping someone can add to the information I have already found.</p>
<p>We are looking for a Christian college/university (preferably conservative/evangelical, but are open to others) with a strong English department that has an emphasis or major in Creative Writing. Other criteria is an active marching band, women's intramural tennis, and located within a day's drive of Michigan.</p>
<p>We understand some of those criteria may have to give, but that's the starting point.</p>
<p>So far we have:
- Liberty University
- Carson Newman
- Belhaven University</p>
<p>My daughter is strong academically, so we are hoping for some academic/merit scholarships or grants as well.</p>
<p>How about Grove City in Pa, or Gardner Webb in NC.</p>
<p>Also my son goes to Campbell in NC. They just started football a few years ago, right now they only have a pep band, but I think they are hoping to start a marching band …may be worth checking!</p>
<p>Thanks, guys. We’re looking closer at Liberty (my alma matter, actually) and Gardner-Webb. Grove City is solid, but they are stronger with Engineering and do not have good emphasis in Creative Writing for their English majors.</p>
<p>Notre Dame and Boston College both have large bands and highly ranked Creative Writing programs, although they are more competitive to get into than the schools you mentioned.</p>
<p>Let’s set the record straight here – Boston College is not a “Christian college” in the sense the OP implies, that is of Protestant denominational leanings, and evangelical to boot. BC is none of those, it is Roman Catholic and Jesuit – and embraces Christianity, as BC is part of the original ‘christian church’. It is also considerably less conservative than ‘Christian colleges’ of the type sought by the OP.</p>
<p>I don’t think anyone disagrees that BC and ND are Catholic. Last I checked, Catholicism is Christian, considering, like you said, it is the “original Christian Church.” The OP said that he/she was interested in the newer protestant religions, but was open to others, which implies that the OP is open to the original Christian religion, you know, the one that actually wrote the bible. Regardless, they were just suggestions. Not sure why you care so much.</p>
