Christians at IIT

I’m wondering if anyone could tell me about the strength of Christian organizations at IIT or just give some general observations about the Christian culture on campus. Is someone from a conservative Christian background going to fit in well?

My daugher is a student at IIT and a Christian. There are vibrant Christian communities on campus (she has been/is involved in both Cru and Intervarsity). She attends a local church with other students from campus, and there are Bible Study, outreach, and social events on campus through IV and Cru and possibly other organizations as well. My daughter has been to a couple of conferences/retreats as well at very low cost. The school seems to be supportive of the various religious groups on campus. The Christian groups aren’t huge but they are alive and well.

If you have more specific questions I can ask my daughter.

Thank you so much! That’s encouraging. I had looked at those groups’ Facebook pages, but it was hard to tell how active they are. Do you know what church she attends?

Not sure which one she attends now. I can ask her and send you a PM. She tried a few before settling on one last year that was easy to get to in the city, and this year she switched—decided to attend with some other students so she would have people to go with. I know she likes the one she’s at because we just had a conversation about it the other day. One of the campus Christian groups has done something in the fall where they attend four local churches over four weeks so new students can try a few and see what works best. There are several good options that are easy to get to from campus, either walking or on public transportation.

One of my advisees is quite active in CRU. I know that he has occasional trips off campus for activities. There are certainly a wide variety of religious groups on campus and the are supported by Student Life.

Thank you, both! @Parentof2014grad, I would love to get that info, so PM whenever you have a chance.
