I hear about people getting kicked out, but more interesting to me right now are the people who leave boarding school voluntarily. This past week I've heard of a bunch of people permanently leaving their schools over the Christmas break. At my school two people left. Have students left your school unexpectedly? Why? And what is the reaction of the other students to their departure?

A fair number of the kids who leave “voluntarily” are mercifully allowed by the school to finish out the semester and withdraw quietly before they are expelled for cause (e.g., cheating, substance abuse)

A parent told me that between the stress and reality of bs environment that hits them, the work load they are burried under this time of year and the depression that impacts some in the winter as well as the long greak where they reconnent with friends and family…well, some kids don’t come back after Christmas break.
However, my child has not reported to me that anyone she knows failed to return. I could see, however, why this time of year would indeed be one that might lead to volutary withdrawl from school for some.
