Merry Festivus everybody!

well someone made up every holiday somewhere along the line...

^ True. At least they didn't have to steal Kwanza from the pagan community.

Christmas is so secular these days it's hardly particularly tied to Christianity. Merry Christmas everyone! :)

Joev, you're a senior member huh, how fitting in so many ways.

or you could just flash the guy a peace sign and say "yo, peace on earth"

check out the hilarious cartoon:

Someone earlier said something along the lines of-

"Christmas and New Years are TWO holidays, therefore Happy Holidays should be used instead of Merry Christmas."

Well, that's fine. But what about all of the TV commercials wishing everyone a "Happy Holiday" or all of the "Holiday" trees out there? What holiday are they celebrating? If they are like 95% of the other Americans, its Christmas (as a poll has recently shown).

Why are companies worried about offending 5% of the population, who probably wouldn't be offended by mentioning "Christmas" anyways?

Does Hummer not advertise its vehicles because it is afraid of offending enviornmentalists?

Do all of these cleansers/acne treatments stop advertising because they are worried about offending people who don't have acne?

Does Maybeline stop advertising because they are afraid of offending men?

Does Outback steakhouse stop advertising because it is afraid of offending vegeterians?

Of course not! No one is offended by any of these things, and no one should be offended by Christmas.

cuse has a point

Although I doubt people without acne would be offended by commercials selling products for those who do have acne, lol. They'd probably even feel better about themselves.

ummm religious diversityy is something which should be respected. period. you can use your awesome logic to convince yourself otherwise if you pleasee. It really doesnt seem so effin hard to say "Happy Holidays". There are holidays. We hope they are happy.. terrific message. there you go. thats it. done.

"Happy Holidays" doesn't create or respect diversity, rather it discourages it. It lumps all holidays into one phrase.

Why shouldn't people be allowed to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Ramadan, Joyous Kwanzaa? I'm not offended by any of those phrases, and neither should anyone else be.

If a store is trying to appeal to Christmas shoppers (which 99% ARE this time of year), they should greet people with "Merry Christmas." If a Jew, Muslim or Atheist is a customer then they are exposed to diversity. Same thing if a bunch of Christians were out enjoying pre-Ramadan sales.

I'm a Christian. However, I don't use my religion as an excuse to be an ass. If someone wishes me a Happy Hannukah, then I'll say the same back to them. I won't correct them or tell them that they can't say that to me, because they can. Anyone who gets offended by these kinds of things is just being uptight and frankly not very reasonable.

yeahh well the thingggg issss Cuse, pretty much everyone says "Merry Christmas". Its just an assumption that everyone is Christian, and celebrates Christmas--which isnt true. No one says, or at least not the media anyhow, "Happy Hannukah" or "happy Kwanza" etc. And honstly I bet if u went up to someone and you saidd "Happy Hanukkah", most wouldnt be as polite as you, and would probablyy think you are weird or somethingg. Whatever you guyss....denial can be a blessing huh?

I think it is ok for people to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas it respects other religious beliefs with out embarrassing yourself by wishing people the wrong hoilday. Trust me people get upset when you believe everyone celerbrate one holiday. I once wish a girl on my team a Merry Christmas and she got mad and started me she was Jewish, so now I wish everybody a Happy Holiday. ( No risk )

GreenDayFan-

I never said that everyone was a Christian. I only said that no one, Christian Jewish Muslim or Atheist should be offended by a greeting for a religious holiday. And if anyone has a problem with "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hannukah" it just shows how ignorant that they as a person are. Why should we allow people who can't respect the beliefs of others to guide us in making our decisions?

fireflylight-

That girl is ignorant. Not stupid or dumb, but ignorant. What about all of the Christians who are offended "Happy Holidays" or things of that nature? Don't we have the right to be offended as well?

I make it a point to try and shop only at stores where the employees wish people "Merry Christmas." Retailers have to understand that they can't alienate 95% of the population and expect to make money.

Merry Christmas :)

Now much better

Happy Holidays LOSER!!!!

Awww Thanks!!(seriously)
You do know I meant it as a joke right?

Um..you kinda don't. Happy Holidays includes Christians, so why would you be offended?? It wishes everyone of different faiths a happy holidayy. There you go. Doesnt' exclude anyone. Which is the aim.

Huh?? That is completely and totally ridiculous. If you say "happy holidays" that is NOT alienating 95% of the population! Happy Holidays, as i just said, is directed to Christians, Jews, whatever, Buddhists..whoeverrr...Now saying "Merry Christmas" IS alienating people however...period.

You are telling me that we aren't being discriminated against? What exactly is a 'Holiday Tree'? Who is doing 99.9% of the shopping in December? People buying Christmas gifts! Why can't stores at least recognize us? Why do they have to be afraid of being sued by the ACLU for mentioning anything even related to Christmas?

Why can't some towns have Christmas trees anymore? Or nativity scenes?

Nothing is wrong with "Happy Holidays." But nothing is wrong with "Merry Christmas" either. Taking the Christmas out of Christmas Tree and/or trying to get rid of the whole notion of a Christian holiday is insane, but sadly that is what many people are trying to do.

dude seriously, there's no shortage of Christmas-themed decoration and greetings.

you're whining about persecution that doesn't exist.
