Cincinnatus Award

My D received her Cincinnatus award yesterday. Wondering if anyone else received theirs. We were a bit disappointed . $2500 and nothing else at this time. 30 ACT, 3.9 UWGPA, 4.4 WGPA

Just wondering how she received it - by mail? Email? Check my aid? Thanks.

@NMpercussionmom - we received a snail mail packet yesterday, and email notification today. You can also see the award here: <a href=“University of Cincinnati”>https://webapps.uc.edu/FinancialAid/CheckMyAid/Login.asp</a></p>

Pretty sure UC just fell out of the running. $3500 Cincinnatus (x4), plus $3000 one-year freshman scholarship from Engineering Dept. (33 ACT, 3.9 UWGPA, FWIW). Nice, but less than all other state schools. Looks like S is Miami bound.

@mflash - I think we’re in the same position. D received significantly more from Miami, and with the Cincinnatus being only $2500, it is probably off our list now.

S received $6,000 plus one-time $2,000 Provost award. We were pleasantly surprised. Much more than he got from OSU. 35 ACT, 3.9UW. Unfortunately, he has his mind set on a much more expensive OOS that gave him nothing. Tough decision ahead!

Got the Cincinnatus Excellence Award for NM along with some $2,000 Provost award. I’m very confused as to what this Provost award is, I’d never heard of it before. I’m hoping that when the snail mail package arrives it’ll clear up that confusion, I was very surprised to see that listed in the email.

D got $2000 per year Cincinnatus, plus $3000 per year as an OOS student. And qualifies for many thousands in loans, no thank you. UC just dropped out of the running, unless a fairy godmother gives her $15K per year to cover what we could not for each of 4 years, plus another $39000 for year five in her program. She has pretty much has the same numbers as mflash. BTW, we got the email late on 3/15, probably will see the snail mail in a day or two.

@IDMomma - my oldest son is now a senior in ID at DAAP. He received the exact same amount of Cincinnatus $$ as your daughter. My youngest son has also been accepted and also received $2000 plus the $3000 OOS. He is still deciding on a school though because he wants to do a varsity sport (tough to do at UC because of the co-ops and time that DAAP takes).

My oldest son has had an amazing experience at UC. If you were to ask him, he would say that it has been worth every penny (that dad spent) and every all-nighter. He has had incredible co-ops, went to S. Korea for a study abroad semester, and he already has a job lined up after he graduates next month. He is recruiting his brother strongly to attend DAAP over SCAD, VT, Purdue, RIT, and OSU.

There are many good ID programs, but what makes DAAP special is the co-ops. Not only the experience that is gained, but the money that the students make that can be put towards school costs. You said “unless a fairy godmother gives her $15K per year”…well, a co-op may not quite cover that, but it would take a big dent out of it. Remember, you are not paying tuition during co-op semesters. We found that break in making payments very helpful. You only end up paying for 3 1/2 years of school over the 5 yr program! Anyway, just something to think about…we kind of looked at the co-op program as an additional “scholarship”.

(btw- I don’t know which “ID” your daughter is interested in, interior or industrial, but it really doesn’t matter…both are excellent programs at UC).

Just got the Cincinnatus snail mail, 2K Century + 3K OOS … and here’s the unexpected kicker +5K for the Chicagoland area. The cost of living is higher here, but I didn’t expect that to translate into an out of state “region” stipend. I’d be curious to see what the New York stipend is. I’m turning in the paperwork before they reconsider. My D is gonna be a Bearcat in DAAP Interior Design come fall. Good luck to all!

S got 3K University Scholarship plus 3K OOS - we did not get any kicker for the Boston Area. S will be a Bearcat in DAAP Industrial Design come fall.

The only merit based aid that I received was a $1,500 Cincinnatus scholarship with 35 ACT and 4.06 GPA.

how did you find out you got any type of scholarships? all we got was go to your financial aid page and there was nothing other then the normal money you get from any college by filling out your FAFSA? my daughter committed two weeks ago and we have not received any type of mail from the school with regard to orientation, housing, scholarships if any at all…nothing in the mail since her acceptance letter a month ago

@daapmom I received mailings about my scholarship and if you go to “check my aid” on the UC website it should all be there.

If you’ve accepted your offer, you can submit your housing application. Orientation slots have recently become available for my daughters DAAP program. The orientation, Bearcat Bound, link is readily available. Sign up. I hope to see you at orientation, daapmom. DAAP, regardless of major, is top notch. Good luck in your final decision.

she signed up for orientation which for her is in mid june. probably not going to parent orientation part…going to just explore the campus and the area
