Does anybody on here have experience with the program? I would like to become a screenwriter, and while I know you don't need any sort of major for that, would this seem like a valuable major for a screenwriting job? I recently read that Chicago is the best city for film. I'm not sure it's better than LA, but if it's possible to make a living as a screenwriter in Chicago, that'd be phenomenal.

I’m attending the College next year and am also curious about CMS. I found the website, http://cms.uchicago.edu/, but other than what I’ve read there I don’t know much. Does anyone have any advice/experiences with CMS classes?

I’m not too familiar with the CMS program (though I hear it’s one of the best in the country) but can say that it is focused on film criticism and analysis rather than production or screenwriting–not that film criticism is unimportant for screenwriting. Consider a major in English with a minor in Creative Writing (no major offered); my friend who is interested in screenwriting just did that and is headed to LA for a writing gig.

Thank you, that is just the information I was looking for! Oh wow! I think the major in English with a creative writing minor would be the route for me :)
