Cinema Studies...accepted students stats please

Can you please post stats (GPA, SAT) for the Cinema Studies program at Tisch...if you were accepted, waitlisted, rejected? I am desperate to apply ED next year but don't want to waste it if I don't have a shot. Toured with the dept. chair and am in love with the program and Tisch. Thanks in advance.

just apply, the admission process is holistic. gpa is only one of the factors but i suggest anything above 3.3+ GPA is good enough to get in while 3.5+ GPA will increase your chances greatly.

Are you in the program now?

ask them directly about your chances.

FAQ

I think my GPA should be okay and the person I spoke to when I was there was very encouraging but my SAT’s have been borderline horrific (for me) so I am worried. I am taking a film course at Barnard this summer for four weeks and study film in school now so I guess that will help but I just wanted to compare my stats to those who were accepted in this particular program. I really want to go here and plan on ED unless I am way off base.

poor SATs may place you directly to the LSP program (some Tisch students are formerly in it). if placed in LSP, all you need is a 3.0 GPA after you finished LSP and you will directly go to Tisch. With APs, LSP can be finished within a year rather than usual 2 years. I am guessing the LSP program is for students that NYU would like to accept but not sure if they are ready for college, which is what SATs/ACTs is for.

I am not in Tisch though but rather in CAS.

THanks…I am wondering just how low is too low…I currently have a 1910 but will take it twice more. I really do not want to start in LSP program…film studies is all I really want to do.

I say anything above 1950-2100 range is a very very good chance in terms of academics according to the above links. But I think your 1910 has a shot. It’s not very high but it’s definitely not low enough to reject outright. Besides, all NYU admissions are holistic and are based on a variety of factors other than SATs. Do you know about NYU’s new SAT policy. You can exchange 3 SAT II / AP scores in the place of your SAT I score. Read it here:

LSP –> Tisch is really the same as a 4-year Tisch program. As a Tisch student, you will still need to take the University Core courses or Morse Academic Plan required courses. LSP lets you take those liberal arts courses first so you do not have to worry about it later on. LSP courses are very similar to other core courses at other universities so they do have a high chance of transferring should you decided to transfer out of NYU. The only real difference between a regular Tisch 4-year and a LSP 1-2-year –> Tisch 2-3 year is that LSP classes are much smaller and some say they are even easier.

You are a wealth of information Mathy…I really appreciate it. I need to pull that SAT up and I understand SATII’s are not req. for Tisch and I take a really heavy course load too so I am cautiously optimistic thanks to you.

S got in with 1890 SATs. Work on your portfolio; the paper and essays are very important.

Thanks…I feel pretty strongly about my essay I plan on writing for my portfolio and actually got some advise from someone at Tisch. I also started my school’s film club/society and am the entertainment section editor of the paper so I hope it all helps…taking film courses this summer too. Here’s hoping.

Ok…took the SAT again and am now at 1950…not a huge improvement but okay. Looking at 3.3-3.5 GPA in extremely rigorous school. Four years Honors Spanish (no AP option yet) plus 4 years Latin, plus honors Calc going to AP next year and AP English Lit this year…plus sciences, history, modern theology etc. (non-honors). Film class elective last two years with A average…production and film studies including term papers, Peer leader junior and senior years, will graduate as 5 year Varsity swimmer, Entertainment Section editor of newspaper since grade 9, founded Film Club beginning next year. No awards but good community service every summer and taking film courses at a major LA college this summer. Interned in media financial firm two summers as well…anyone want to toss me a bone and chance me for Cinema Studies? I want to apply ED. Should I take SAT’s again?
