My school in California does not require civil engineering majors to take Circuits. It this class worth taking anyway? Will I use it in the workplace?
No and h$%^ no…next question?
Dont take it.
Why shouldn’t I take?
The bigger question is…why take it?
It’s not worth taking. You won’t use it in the workplace. There’s a reason your school doesn’t require it. You’re better off spending the time on civil engineering electives.
I’ve heard its really useful in prepping for the FE exam but useless otherwise.
Ack, I had to take it as a civil (architectural) engineering major and hated it!! Barely squeaked by with a B. I can’t imagine taking it if it weren’t required.
It didn’t really help me on the FE exam. Even though I studied circuits for the exam, I didn’t know the answers to any of the questions! I put down “C” for every answer. Still passed the exam easily.
I took the “E-sci” class for non-EE engineers. No lab, and easier coursework. Phew.
Thanks!
My D is an arch Eng major and has taken circuits and electrical systems design for buildings. She said the second class has been useful as she’s done a couple of internships that were heavy in electrical work, but she can’t see why a civil engineer would take circuits and she hasn’t used the material.
@Parentof2014grad, I was an Arch E major, too!
@MaineLonghorn She’s sort of copying you. She’s doing a coterminal degree —BS in ArchEng and MS in Structural.
