citizenship question

hi,
i heard people say if you're not a u.s. citizen or don't have a green card, you can't get finacial aid and scholarship and can't even go to UC systems. Is that true? sorry, i don't really know what forum to post, but i would appreciate your help.

I think that's right if you are an illegal immigrant, if you are just like someone coming to study from abroad or something, I think it's different. There was a guy from Zimbabwe who just posted, and I don't think he had a green card and he got 75% coverage from Ithaca College.

So I guess it depends on your reasons for not having a green card/citizenship.

I don't think I am an illegal immigrant (that's what my dad told me). I have H4 visa, am I still eligible to apply to colleges or finacial aid? Does anyone have knowledge in this area?

I don't have any knowledge on the topic, but I searched on google and it was a site with a FAQ of the H4 Visa. This was the specific FAQ entry:

i m on H4 in USA now but wants to convert my status from H4 to F1 what's the procedure? could u pls guide me?

Firstly get admission in college.
Get it stamped in the native country.

So I'm guessing if their answer was to first get admitted into college, you can go to college with an H4 just fine. I don't know if the very specifics of the Visa would influence your financial aid however.

My recommendation would be to either call a school you're interested in and ask. Or call the INS and ask. Or call a lawyer and ask.

These kinds of issues are dangerous and you don't want to get in trouble for any of it.

thank you for your response ellano, i will do more research on google too
