Hi y'all !

I'm a high school student from Germany who has received his first offer from a university just yesterday and of course I am excited about this (it's a great feeling, knowing you will attend university somewhere.

Now this offer (well conditional offer but I will manage the condition easily) is from the City University in London, more precisely its Cass business school and there the course "Investment and Financial Risk Management".

Now, maybe this is a stupid question but in Germany, the repuation of international universities is apart from just a few "stars" not that big:

What is its reputation like (esp. in the UK), what is the social scene and its competitiveness like and how does this university compare to others (LSE, the American ones, the German ones).

I am searching for a university which provides me with a very good position in the run for the few places in the financial markets.

Any advice is greatly appreciated !

Dave

Cass is quite good and is consideared quite well among recruiters. It is not up to the standards of the LSE or Oxbridge but it will be viewed well in the UK. Not sure about its rep in the USA. The course also sounds pretty good for a career in the financial sector.

Thanks for your reply. It's basicly what I thought. When I applied I basicly added it as I had some choices left for free on my UCAS account, not doing a lot of research or something related.

What worries me (and my parents) a little bit, is that I would enroll in a highly specialized degree. It's the opposite of the American "liberal arts" curriculum and still more narrow than let's say a finance or economics degree. I know that I want to work in this sector, but what if at the time of my graduation the world's financial markets head right into a recession.

Obviously, good times follow bad times, but will I really be well .. locked down to the financial analyst position or are there other possibilities to go?

I don't know much about the British investment banking but it probably is the same all over the world: Is the course (Investment and Financial Risk Management) preparing me only for the research department or leading positions in the trading and other departments as well ?

Lots of questions... sorry ;)

Well CASS is a decent school but its not in the top league if you know what i mean.
