<p>Hi there!</p>

<p>So as long as I can remember, it has been my dream to go to college in a city (preferably NYC/Boston) since I have spent my whole life in rural Connecticut. Now that it is coming down to the real thing, though, I've realized I don't really have the money to go to school out of state. I have pretty much exactly enough money to go to UConn at in state price, which is about 80,000 for 4 years. Unfortunately, my EFC is too high (around $15,000) to receive any kind of financial aid, even though my family doesn't actually have the ability to contribute that.</p>

<p>So I was just curious, does anyone know of any good schools (similar to or better than UConn) that would offer me either merit/need based aid so I could maybe fulfill my dream of going to a city? Here are my stats!</p>

<p>Weighted GPA: 3.5
Rank: 67/250
1 AP class (APUSH) and Honors in all core classes each year
Attended good, competitive public CT high school
3 years of Math, Science, and Spanish
4 years of English
1 year of Orchestra, 3 years of Chamber Choir</p>

<p>SAT: Math-640, Verbal-640, Writing-650 = Total of 1930
ACT: English-34, Math-29, Science-28, Reading-30 = Composite of 30
(recently took the ACT again and hoping for >30)</p>

<p>I’m confused. Do you have $80K to put towards college? Can your family pay it’s $15K EFC? Is the EFC FAFSA? Have you run some calculators or schools that use Profile?</p>

<p>I have 80k saved for college from my grandmother. As stated, my family cannot actually put forth the 15k EFC. Yes, this is from calculators I have run.</p>

<p>try the CUNY’s, particularly Brooklyn College. I think that most students can get loans to a max of 5 thousand a year, if that is a something you’d consider.</p>

<p>Whose name is the $80K in? How much can your parent’s pay?</p>

<p>If your parents can’t pay $15k, can they pay $5k? more? less? If you could add $5k-10k per year from your parents, that would give you more options.</p>

<p>You could also borrow $5500 for a student loan for frosh year, however I wouldn’t do that unless the school is at least as good as what you have in Connecticut. I don’t think a CUNY is close to being as good as UConn</p>

<p>Keep in mind that many of the CUNYs are commuter or suitcase schools. The excitement of being near the city may wear off when your classmates all head home to the suburbs or burroughs at night or on weekends. </p>

<p>**I think you need to find a residential school <a href=“where%20many%20kids%20live%20on%20campus”>/B</a> in a good-sized city so you’ll have a more full college experience. </p>

<p>There are MANY schools that will provide many on campus and off campus activities without being in NYC. I understand that you’re from a rural area, so really any big college or flagship in a good-sized city will provide a well-rounded and fun experience.</p>

<p>With your ACT 30 (and possibly higher), you have some opportunities for good-sized scholarships at some schools.</p>

<p>Quiet campus? </p>

<p>Spirited campus with big sports to watch?</p>

<p>Greek systems?</p>

<p>Warmer weather?</p>

<p>nice dorms?</p>
