Good colleges in the Northeast for my friend?

Hi all,
I'm posting this for my friend, who has been worried about college lately. She is a diligent, hard-working student who is unfortunately a non-URM with no money. She's worried she won't be able to find a college that she can afford that will offer her enough post-grad opportunities. Some (very approximate) stats:
-As and Bs in the 2nd highest level of classes available, along with 1 AP (English Lit) this year and a couple more next year (AP English Lang, AP Psych, maybe one more). Her grades might be slightly worse in math, though.
-ECs: Section Editor of the school newspaper, Link Crew leader (to help the freshmen transition), has a pretty steady babysitting gig, ran track in freshman/sophomore year, other clubs/community service
-she hasn't taken the SATs yet but her PSAT was in the 180 range, I think
-she's had some family issues that have made high school a little difficult
I don't think she has any idea what she wants to major in, but it probably won't be math or science. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

It’s good she’s considering the cost of the school now. What is her home state? Has she run a FAFSA forecaster yet to see what her EFC is?

home state is CT. I don’t think she knows her FAFSA yet, unfortunately, but I’d expect it to be pretty low. Any suggestions for schools with decent reputations that would give her merit aid?

UConn gives some aid but I would have her apply early (EA) to be considered. Central CT also has merit aid. Without final grades, stats, it will hard.
There are private colleges that give merit aid to students that aren’t top students, although her early scores are well above average, full need colleges that will try to meet EFC, but again, not knowing financial situation, students in school, it’s hard. Hopefully she will have a a good GC to help her apply to public/private colleges that she might have a chance of getting better aid. If her income is very low, or the school has many low-income students, she might get free applications and SAT wavers. There are sites (including this one) that will have lists of schools that give good aid, are free to apply too, etc. but there are so many variables to getting aid, no one can predict this early the outcome.
