I was just accepted to UMD today and was invited to the CIVICUS living and learning community! I’ve heard really great things about it, but how does this compare to being in honors or scholars? Is it worth it?
Also, how does CIVICUS compare on the basis of prestige to the other programs?
Hi. OOS and accepted and got an invite to CIVICUS also. No idea what it is? What college did you get into
computer, mathematical, and natural sciences
Civicus is known for community service. Honors gets first select of students, then scholars, then other programs such as CIVICUS and FIRE which usually select based off of the type of student you are/interests you have. Honors you get a living learning program, a citation, first select of classes, etc. As a CS major I went for ACES for my LLP. I was lucky enough to get it. I don’t know much about scholars. I know CIVICUS, FIRE and alike programs are usually great at setting up a smaller community for the student, so if you’re into that (and you want some really cool community service opportunities and meet awesome people) go for it. Can’t go wrong af UMD. Honors and Scholars are typically a trade-off type of deal (extra work for opportunities), but with CIVICUS you just get the opportunity (I don’t think there are acedmic strings attached, will check it out).
