I am thinking about majoring in civil engineering. I would like ti go into patent law. I know i will be qualified to take the patent bar but i probably will not have the highest demand in prosecution. My question is: will civil engineering be beneficial in patent litigation, construction or any other field?
Advice:
- Major in civil engineering ONLY if you feel you would like the subject and could do well in it, and would like to be an engineer.
- Do not think so far ahead about becoming a patent attorney. That will take at least seven or eight years and you could easily decide to drop civil engineering, or law school, or simply change majors to something you find you like a lot better.
- And if you explain why, at this stage of your life, you want to become a patent attorney, you might receive more advice.
- I have an interest in both civil engineering and in patent law. These interests are both just about equal. I am interested in technology, processes, systems and i pay close attention to detail. I am very analytical, creative, and I learn easily.
- I know that I want to become an attorney but i do not want my undergrad degree to go to waste. Law is my priority but I am curious if doing both CivE and law is worthwhile.
- I explained my reasons of wanting to be a patent attorney in part 1.
