I’ll start with a little background:
I’m going into my sophomore year this fall and I’m currently an structural engineering intern for a good sized firm in Colorado. So far this summer I haven’t always reached 40 hours a week in client billable hours, but I’ve managed to find tasks, no matter how menial, to stay busy. However, I’ve got about three weeks left and haven’t been assigned ANY work in almost a week. I’ve informed my Team Leader that I need something and he always responds positively that he is looking for stuff. I’ve reached out to other teams including surveying and drafting and done some work for them. I’m one of the hardest working students I know and HATE sitting around not being productive on the companies dime.
How can I get more work assigned even when my educational experience limits me compared to the other upperclassmen interns that work here?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
