Does anyone know the breakdown of Civil salaries based on the area of focus? Such as Structural, Transportation, Construction, Geotechnical, etc.
I’m at Georgia Tech right now, and each year Tech posts the average starting salaries of the graduating class for each major. Unfortunately, Civil was only $56,000. Unfortunately again, they don’t post more in-depth breakdowns.
The sample size is probably too small, with a lot of variance from geographical location.
Structural engineers start out making low-ish salaries, but experience a dramatic increase after a few years of experience and getting their PEs and SE licenses. Basically entry-level civil engineers are apprentices. Who would trust a fresh graduate to design a structure that could endanger society after all? Can’t have another Hyatt Regency walkway collapse.
