Civil Engineering

Is it possible to earn 6 figures in Civil Engineering/Construction?

Yes, but you won't reach it towards the beginning of your career. Construction management is one of the higher paying branches of civil engineering.

Does Construction Management actually include much engineering work?

Engineering management in any type of engineering field requires you to understand the concepts, but if you're a manager, you won't be the one cranking out the math and equations.

Construction management (CM) is different from engineering management actually. CM is the management of construction specifically; CM firms do cost estimates, project scheduling and logistics, and construction supervision in the field. They are responsible for coordination between the owner, architects & (design) engineers, and the contractors. Depending on the owner and project, they also take part in the design stage to give input on constructibility. CM's really don't design too many things if that's what Shackleford was referring to though I hear it's common practice for the contractor/CM to design steel member connections. The bulk of the design work is left for the structural engineers and architects.
