It sounds better at Marion, frijoles, in terms of receiving appointments early. Here at NMMI, 4 out of the 10 WP preps haven't heard anything yet and they are all qualified.

For those of you visiting Marion this weekend...keep in mind that Marion is not West Point and it is not your local state university. It is a small, older military college that has buildings built before the civil war. Some of its physical plant looks tired. The dorms are small and by no means plush. Spartan might be a good description. Marion is in the process of upgrading its physical plant as it fairly recently became part of the Alabama college network and has started receiving state funds. Some day it may resemble West Point or an Ivy League school, but it is not there yet.

With that said, the advantage to Marion is its people. As previously stated by others in the posts above, LTC Bauer is a tremendous asset who works hand in hand with the Admissions Office at West Point to make sure that each AOG cadet gets into West Point. I believe that every AOG cadet that stayed in Marion this year has received his or her appointment to West Point for the Class of 2011. I don't think any other of the military schools can make that representation.

LTC Bauer is not the only great faculty member at Marion. My son has been very impressed with COL Thornton who teaches all AOG cadets English and Commander Stevenson who teaches all AOG cadets chemistry. Both teachers actively work with the cadets in and out of class to polish their academic skills for West Point. If you have a chance to speak with any of these faculty members during your visit, it will be well worth your time.

As you walk through Marion keep in the back of your mind that Marion is the means to an end...West Point and the Class of 2012. While there is no guarantee of admission to West Point if you attend Marion, it has got the best odds possible. Good luck and best wishes for the USMA Class of 2012!

Weed2102,
I was in your same postion a little while ago. I was offered AOG, accepted it and applied to Marion. I received the highest $2,500 and was all set to go to Alabama for a year before WP. This saturday I received an appointment in the mail. If you do go to Marion thats great, but I guess I'm just saying you might still have a shot at this year.

Congrats Kevin! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, and everyday I still check the mail to see if that package is there. If you would be so kind, could you pm me your stats or post them here so maybe I can get an idea about where I still stand? I'm curious as to where I stand on that list.

Sure, but one thing to consider is that I don't believe I was pulled off the NWL. My nominating senator called to let me know, I don't believe that happens for NWL becuase those candidates aren't charged to a MOC.
