Quick question about accepting/declining

If I decline an offer should I let the ALO/BGO know? Btw, I was wondering what the process would be to withdraw an application for NA? Would I have to let my BGO know? I say this because literally hit a jackpot and I need to close it down so I can focus on making a smart decision.

When our daughter declined her appt to the Naval Academy in favor of West Point last year she sent a letter to the BGO to advise her. It would be the polite thing to do given they took the time to interview you and help guide you through the process.

Congrats and good luck!

Hugh Jass - Congratulations on all of your offers of admission I wish you luck in your decision-making process. I am curious what area of the country you call home. We live in a competitive area in a major city in Texas and it would be difficult if not impossible to obtain more than one nomination, especially to the 3 major (meaning no offense to anyone) academies. I see from prior posts you have offers of admission from USMA, USNA, USAFA, and USCGA (also realizing that a MOC nomination is not needed for USCGA). A candidate has to prioritize his/her choices on the nomination applications and typically is only considered for a nomination to one academy. Also, the MOCs communicate as to avoid "wasting" nominations by giving duplicates.

I didnt get in to NA yet. But I did visit it for the CVW, and I really want to focus everyhting down to just MA, AFA, and CGA. I come from Westchester, New York.

Quick question, How do you have the BGO's address? The naval academy only gives the number and name on their website.

hj,
why do I have so much trouble identifying your genre: fiction or non-fiction?

you dont believe me?

Edit: I just realized i may have sounded like an ass when i said "yet" what im trying to say is that I want to withdraw my app for the naval academy. I did not mean to come across that way.

Hugh Jass
Last year the Candidate Info website had the email link to the BGO. I also assumed that you must have been interviewed by your BGO and would therefore have their contact info.

Oh, I assumed you received an offer of admission from USNA as you were wanting to get out of the running. I assume you could contact the Admissions Office and let them know if you truly were no longer interested. Or you could let it play out and see what happens. That way you will know for sure if you were able to make the cut there. If accepted you could always quickly decline and still have a nice letter for posterity to show your grandchildren someday.

Yes, I have his phone number. But my BGO visited my homeand all of our contact was through the email nothing which pertained to his address. I mean, I can send an email, but it would seem very impersonal. I could do a look up via google, but I think that would be rather rude and "stalkerish". W/e, Ill see what i have to do.

HJ,

I'm curious why, after your CVW, you have decided to withdraw from USNA consideration.

I want to withdraw my USNA application because I have decided that I will be better off not having to wait for the only pending application that I have. I want to send off the accept/decline letters/cards as soon as possible to get behind the ball.

As a BGO the appropriate thing would be to call your BGO (you should have a contact number). There is also a postcard in your packet that you check a box for "withdrawal" application that you can mail in.
It is very important to do this ASAP, you wouldn't want to take a spot away from another candidate that you do not intend to accept.
