"illustrate a phenomenon" rings a bell. I do remember having metaphor as an answer somewhere, too.

i think step is right.

yes steph is right in that one of the answers was illustrate a phenomenon

This discussion cannot die.

step is right - that was the answer not metaphor

i'm pretty sure "enveloped" was the right answer for that one question. It talked about how the illiterati were unnoticed. disguised means their appearance changed; i don't think that fits in context.

I put disguise. The enveloped people make a good argument though.

i put disguise but it seems as though envelop makes a lot more sense now - it 'covered' the illiteri in anonymity rather than preventing the appearance of the illiteri- iguess

i put enveloped... same argument for the why i didn't choose disquise is stated above

im pretty sure its disguise
webster's states that disguise means to conceal
disguise can be used to mean change the appearance of- but conceal is its main defintion- idiomatically though disguise has always meant to change the appearance but the actual definition is to conceal

on the other hand- envelop means to physically or metaphorically surround- not necessarily conceal while on the other hand disguise is by definition- to conceal

in context conceal makes more sense

GOD this was a terrible question by collegeboard

personally i think conceal in anonymity makes more sense than surround in anonymity

If it had said "enveloped in anonymity" and asked what enveloped meant, disguised would be a good answer. I don't know if this has any importance, or even if it makes sense, but alas.

i put 'to compare two unlike things' for the organ pipe :/ you know, the pipe and the larger animals, agh i guess not :P

ahh lol now there's another word my friend said both other than disguise or envelope. blocked? man CR is so wierd...lol. I wish I could rmbr some more CR questions but its so hard to.

It was blocked...
For that question on the instruments another choice was to link science and the arts...

WE ALL PUT METAPHOR FOR THAT COMET QUESTION. :p

i put illustrate phenamenon for the organ pipe, i think

what was the name of that passage...anyone remember?

on that one with 'caricature' i was so ****ed...the next day i started Orwell's 1984 and the word and an explanation of (caricature) came up...

i dunno, i would think that "by" would be a better preposition than "in" if the answer was "disguised".

that was definitely a bad question.

Hey, I had this form of the test, too!
I had a CR experimental with the lava and the men in the boat (at least someone said this was the experimental.) I had nothing with milquetoast, etc. I put disguised and caricature. I seem to have had mostly the same answers as most of the people here for everything else.
At least now I know someone else had the same form as I. :)

yay another member of the "rare" form cult
