Civil Vs. Electrical? I'm really unsure

I was thinking about what I want to major in when I get to college, and for the longest time I thought that I wanted to do electrical, and I never wavered until recently.

I was thinking that I wanted to go into something involving electronics in an R&D type of job where I can test and design different electronics.

However, I was thinking today, and I really think I would enjoy civil engineering, in the bridge building and structural engineering areas. However, I can't really seem to find who would hire a civil engineer and exactly what their job would entail, the prospect of helping the public and designing something that a lot of people will use and appreciate is very appealing to me.

So if anyone could help explain to me what types of jobs civil engineers get and who hires them, and also what types of jobs would be the best for an R&D type position in electrical engineering that would be fantastic. I think I'm just a little confused about what civil engineering would entail after college, would I actually be designing bridged and buildings? or what?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks Ken!

Does anyone else have any information they could help me out with?

Don’t electrical engineers design things that help people? Okay, they usually don’t build public works, but when you work on an embedded system that somebody actually wants to buy, you know you’re fulfilling a need.

And electrical engineers work on power systems too, not just electronics. Well, they can, depends on what electives you take, I guess.

Without EE , modern building designs would have only stayed on paper.

Thanks guys, I guess you’re right about electrical engineers being needed by the community as well.

I think I’m going to stick with electrical, I was thinking about it a lot today and I realize that while in theory I really want to build things like bridges and buildings, I know in practice I’m going to enjoy designing electrical components and the like.
