I've always been very good with math. I'm pretty good with physics as well, but definitely more so with kinetics, electricity/magnetism/quantum stuff doesn't bode well with me at all. I'd say I have a very logical mind (I was even considering law at one point). I'm sort of pressured to do engineering because my dad, brother, aunt, cousin, etc have all done some sort of engineering. I was thinking of doing civil engineering because that seems to be the best fit for where my strengths lie. But sometimes I worry that there's something else out there that I would be happier with. It's not like I'm one of those people who have "known they wanted to be an engineer since they were in the womb". I never played with legos or de-assembled and then re-assembled bikes for fun as a kid (but then again I'm a female and was too busy playing with barbies). I also have an interest in making the world more "green", but I think as a civil engineer I would do just the opposite. I considered environmental at one point but found out this semester that I am a failure at chemistry. I had all A's this semester except for Chemistry (in which I got a C). I guess this is more of a rant than anything else but any suggestions would be great. I feel like I'm going to make the wrong decision and end up with a career that I hate. I just ended my first semester as a freshman at the University of Florida and unfortunately the window of time for changing my major is slowly closing in. :(

Take a look at mechanical engineering.

I agree with lil killer129

you should do mechanical or electrical engineering because they are very broad fields of engineering.

What does mechanical do exactly?
And isn't electrical.. well.. electricity based? I did very poorly on the electricity unit of AP Physics in highschool.

Mechanical engineers have to do with everything that moves and has motion. Even if you did bad in the electrical unit in high school dont worry about it. If your interested in it you'll figure it out.

I had the same problem as you and I'm going for mechanical.

It's so broad that if you want to change your field early on it's not too hard to adjust.
The process of elimination is also extremely helpful. Decide what you don't want to do- research the fields. Their pay range might help a bit if your're indecisive

This indicates that you would not like electrical engineering, which is the exact conclusion I came to myself. Mechanical engineering would be a great fit for you and it will have a role in making a green future.

@alexithymia,

I think before choosing a major you should have a talk with your family members and express your concerns about feeling pressured to do something you may not want to do. I also think it's too early to tell whether you should give up on engineering. Your problems may very well be due to the stress you're under. Also consider things like getting extra tutoring, taking time out do work on more problems, taking a lighter courseload, etc.
