I was wondering how good of a school is Claremont McKenna? Is it considered an Ivy-League School? I have not seen a lot of post on Claremont McKenna so any information given is much appreciated!!

its considered one of the top10 schools in cali.the claremont schools are really difficult to get into, i callled them sub-ivy.

Oh well I was wondering compared to Stanford which school which you consider better?? In terms of pre-med and journalism??

Just a warning: 2290 and 4.0 unweighted was waitlisted (i.e. rejected) at CMC this year.

WOW, thanks for the info..

It is not considered the same calibre as Stanford.

by no means

To add: 2270, 4.0, etc. was waitlisted and rejected this year...

It's not quite at the level of ivies, stanford, mit, duke, etc. However, it is a top tier liberal arts school.

Very hard to get into.

I have a soft spot for Claremont McKenna.

i noticed the incredibly breathtaking mountains in the background of a photo...might their be skiing nearby :)

Some people with lower stats, of course, got in. At these schools there seems to be an entry level of stats--like 680 or 700 on the SAT sections, and a 3.8 or so--and after that the extra-curriculars are MORE important than higher stats.

Claremont McKenna College is an excellent school that follows the liberal arts tradition. Part of the Claremont consortium of colleges, it is selective in part because it only has about a thousand students. If your interest is pre-med or journalism, CMC may not be the best match for you because they are not best known for the science disciplines, and there is no journalism department.

My daughter and I visited CMC because she was interested in Pomona College, another of the Claremont schools, and while she loved Pomona, she was less enchanted with CMC. For one, the aesthetics of the architecture was lacking, and as we found out CMC wasn't strong in the academic interests of my daughter. On the other hand, a couple of her good friends will be attending CMC this fall. One is interested in politics, international relations and possibly law school. I think he'll fit in well at CMC.

claremont is hard to get into because of its size, but its not as impossible as some of the posters have said. I got in (and was going to go there until I got off a waitlist somewhere else) and my gpa wasn't 4.0, and quite honestly my first trimester senior year grades sucked. I mean obviously high sats and a high gpa help, but don't cross it off your list just because you don't have a 4.0 or a 2400 because these days getting into any good school is a crapshoot

Thanks for all the info..it seems like a good school! I was just wondering about it because not alot of people talk about Claremont..Thanks for all the info..
