Claremont vs Duke

I’m deciding between Duke and Claremont McKenna for my early decision school (I’ve completed both of their applications, but I love both schools so much I can’t decide on one). I know I definitely want to apply somewhere ED because I don’t think my senior grades are going to be perfect (probably 2 B’s) and I want to know some of the pros and cons of the school’s as well as some of the major differences in the schools. My biggest deciding factor is definitely the social life and the general quality of life at the school (though academics is obviously important, I feel that both schools will give me a superb education). THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I go to UVA, and this is all from what I hear.

Really depends on what you want to major in, but I think Duke is going to be better for the most part.I think both schools are pretty fun places. Obviously, if you want more of a trad-preppy feel go with Duke. The parties are probably pretty lit, from what I hear, and you’ll get a pretty great college experience with amazing sports and greek life (if you want it).

From what I understand, CMC has a focus on politics/business/finance. The social life is gonna be dictated by the consortium, but its probably more of a small feel. From my understanding, the school’s pretty fun. Idk if you’re looking into investment banking, but for some reason CMC doesn’t really have incredible placement on the East Coast.

Have you run the Net Price Calculator on both options with your family?

If you are really that torn I don’t think you should apply ED, of course.

With that said, though, what kind of social life and quality of life are you looking for? Although the Claremont Consortium does add the students from the other four colleges, CMC is going to have the small-college feel. Duke is going to feel a bit more like the stereotypical “college experience” that people expect from TV and movies - big sports, Greek life, more partying, etc.
