Claremont Vs. Pomona?!

What are some (important) differences between Claremont McKenna College and Pomona College? What is there to do near the Claremont Colleges in general?

In my experience, as a generalization, Claremont students seemed to get out more, and as a school it seemed to have more of a focus on the social sciences, while Pomona students seemed to be a bit more language/mathematics/science focussed and perhaps a little less likely to go out on a Friday night. Just a visitor’s perspective, however.

Thank you!

You should visit if you can.

Pomona can be pretty self-contained because they have everything there, while Claremont McKenna students are more likely to interact with students from other schools, I think, because CMC is smaller and generally more specialized for the social sciences. You can definitely meet people at other schools at either college. But Pomona freshmen live on the far south side of campus, which is a bit of a ways from the other schools to the north. Also, Pomona has a prettier campus.

I have to disagree with musisat’s comments above. As a CMC student, I do not feel that we socialize with other schools because our campus is small when compared to Pomona’s or because we specialize in the social sciences. I think it has more to do with the selection of students at both schools. CMC students have the stereotype (and it has more than a grain of truth) of being social and outgoing people. It obviously makes sense that people with such temperaments interact with more people, including people from other schools.
