Clark Scholars 2015

Yeah but seriously everyone looks so qualified it’s seriously depressing.

Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.8971
Class Ranking: Not Available
Standardized Test Scores:
• SAT l: 2330 (Mathematics:770, Critical Reading:760, Writing:800)
• SAT ll: Biology (Molecular):800
• PSAT: 221 (Mathematics:73, Critical Reading:70, Writing:78) ( I hope this doesn’t hurt, regret sending)
• Advance Placement: Biology: 5, Chinese: 5, Psychology: 5, World History: 5

My essay was eloquent but cheesy af, like I could smell the cheddar from the screen.

Tbh I’m really hoping my recs can get me in:

  1. Precal Teach: Texas Tech Alumni? Idk if this matters but she did mention.
  2. AP Bio Teach: Helps design AP Bio curriculum and worked with someone in charge with the program. I think gave a good word for me?
  3. Past Professor: Wrote like a spectacular rec about me. I worked with him last summer and his lab is productive af (like 2-3 nature science each year? plus minor journals as well)

EC:
Marching Band, Wind Ensemble (3 year all state), Symphony Orchestra, Tennis ( Like legit, I play USTA (united states tennis association), Varsity Speech and Debate, small clubs with some officer positions, lots of volunteering, Internship at a extremely prestigious research institution (I won’t name), some shadowing

Awards (Have no idea how I can send, if I can even, and if not nothing matters in this section) : AP scholar w/ distinction, siemens semifinalist, most likely usabo semifinalist, some major music awards, some major tennis awards, scholastic silver key (lol gotta take up space)

Research: I chose oncology( medicine) and molecular bio.

Ugh I’m so worried that everyone has insane stats and identical ECs. Its gonna be very interesting how the committee arbitrates. Oh I’m applying from Houston so that hurts as well.

@Hotmamanearyou‌ Wow no dude you have amazing stats i think you’re getting in for sure. Are you a senior?

No jr. But research at Stanford?, higher SAT score than me as well.
And theres that one kid with perfect SATs and ACT like holy fu–
And honestly, I don’t even know if my awards can go in.
Also 12/300 is very, very low especially with all this competition.

@Hotmamanearyou‌

Oo siemens as a junior that’s interesting

Nothing is guaranteed, but I would imagine that your experience and stats are not less qualified for the summer program.

Good luck though!

Based wanna share your stats?
Also are you junior or senior?

Haha good luck on usabo open Based!

Gosh, I really hope I make it this year, but based on the impressive accomplishments I’ve seen on here, I don’t think I’ll get in. I have “perfect” scores on all my tests (except PSAT, which I got 230) and got 5s on all AP tests (7, which includes AP Stats that I independently studied for), and did some research last year but didn’t do Siemens or anything, nor did I get into Intel ISEF or anything of the sort. Sigh. Idk…I had more stuff than last year, but idk how much more. I’m counting on my gov teacher’s recommendation to pull me up, but my chem teacher submitted the recommendation late! And I mailed it in the day it was due, and I haven’t received a confirmation email yet. I’m so nervous!

Don’t worry, we’re all literally identical in terms of grades, EC, and most likely race, so equal shots for everyone. (Perfect SATs and ACT however is exceptional if not extremely rare).

@Hotmamanearyou‌ haha i have a few research experience that will hopefully help

Not sure how the admissions process works, but i would definitely imagine that they look beyond the stats so don’t worry!

Does anyone know what the financial situation for Clarks is? Is it completely free?

@debate4ever‌
Yes. Last year we had free room and board, which includes free single person room in a suite style dorm for 6.5 weeks plus 650$ of food credit usable on campus. You should bring some cash with you for off campus restaurant outings, though. After you turn in your research paper and presentation, you get 760$ stipend either in cash or added to your bank account. You will be gaining instead of losing money by the end of the program (unless you spent a freakish amount of money on shopping or something)

@fairyfantasy‌ wow that’s awesome

@debate4ever‌ Unless you’re flying over. Then it breaks even // slightly deficit

if we get in we’re smying hella fam

when do decisions come out?

i’m curiosu!!

Last year, decisions came out in April 22nd, and the year before they came out on the 29th. If history tells, it is likely this year to be released april 28th. Please don’t fret until then bc what is passed has passed. Regardless, good luck everyone!

This email tho. Scared the hell out of me.
"Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your completed application.

You will be notified of the decision in mid-April.

If you have further questions, you may reply to this email address."

IKR, I thought it was a rejection but just a confirmation lol.
