@fairyfantasy im in the same boat as @shadyconcepts . When we’re listing our primary interest, do we just list the area of humanities we’re interested in or the specific research question we would like to work on?
@randomhouse Nevermind what I just said, lol. I looked at the application form and it was a little different from last year. I would just answer the prompt (describe your interest, being very specific) as in a paragraph or two about any questions etc you have to research about.
@stuffedicing = RL equals real life.
Also, I actually asked the age question for a friend of mine this year. Dr. SF said to just apply next year, sorry
@randomhouse just the area that you’re interested in would work best. You can probably specify what area of history you’re interested in in that essay.
I feel so dumb but I had my teachers submit my recs with the file name Recommendation-MyFirstName rather than First and Last name… My name is rather unique but what should I do about this? Will Dr. SF scorn me for my ineptitude D:
@literatechild You can have your teachers email again with your full name, if possible.
Hey @fairyfantasy and some of the other users who went to Clark in the past, can you talk a bit more about what the experience was like? Like, some of the other activities and seminars, and what the research experience was like? For the “why Clark” essay, I want to talk about how the prospect of really interacting with the professor and living on camps and having access to my research 24/7 is exciting. Now that I’m a high school senior though, and I could theoretically try to get research opportunities at local universities, I figure it’ll be helpful to have something more concrete to talk about as to “why Clark”.
Are the only available research areas the ones listed under “sample areas of research” or can you choose an area in one of the colleges that isn’t explicitly listed?
@milkymilkk: That’s my question, too - my area of interest fits multiple fields but I don’t know if that’s allowed or not…
I put two interesting research areas in the field of computational biology for the first question. Would that be fine?
I’m not including a secondary interest so I am quite wary.
Also, for the personal statement: Would around 600 words be a fine length? I have a predilection for keeping things concise.
The application also has 35 columns for activities… Are we expected to be able to fill all of them??
The website says to have official test scores mailed, so would it be adequate to print screenshots and have your school guidance counselor sign it?
@spacelover17
It was like a very fun and independent “college” experience. We lived in suite-style dorms so 3 people to each suite, which has 4 bedrooms, a living room with refrigerator, and 2 bathrooms. Everyone lived on the same floor so it was like a tiny community. We had weekly Thursday seminars/presentations from research professors on topics like ergonomics, solar panel/energy, ethics, etc. On Saturdays, we had “field trips” to awesome places including all-natural “pools”, museums, arcades, etc. On weekdays, most of us follow a “work schedule” going to labs from around 8 a.m. to 5 p.m… We generally try to get together with a few others to eat lunch and dinner but not so much whenever things get busy toward the last few weeks. We had a Clarkie from Lubbock (every year there will be one Clarkie chosen from within the city) so he brought a TV to his suite and we watched a LOT of late night movies. As for the research, Some interacted with professors often, others did not. Some were assigned by their professors to work under P.H.D students instead of actually working under the professors themselves. Definitely go to Einstein’s Bagels for food often; it’s easily one of my favorite restaurants on campus.
@milkymilkk @MoiraiArete
Yes, just put whatever field/sub-field you are interested it. You are not accepted based on your interest field. Dr. SF try to match you up with a mentor AFTER you accept the invitation to join.
@BasedBioGod
I wouldn’t stress. I only had 500 words or so.
@milkymilkk
Um, there is no “suppose” to or “not suppose to”. Just put in whatever ECs you have. If you have 35 you love, then put them. I certainly didn’t have 35.
@angeamange
I think so; if nothing changed since last year.
I finally have everything ready, but I cannot figure out how to “sign” the PDF. Can someone teach me how I can write something AND make sure it saves?
No one knows?
The only way I can do it is by using EchoSign, but the website says not to.
@Woandering, I’m confused - where on the application does it ask for a signature? O.o
I filled mine out on Preview (on a Mac)…
@literatechild
I’m using Windows, and we’re meant to click “sign” to fill out the form. You don’t need a signature.
@literatechild
Have you tried sending it to a Windows computer and opening it?
I just tried filling it with my sister’s Mac, but when I send it to myself, it appears as blank again on my Windows PC. If Dr. SF has a PC, this doesn’t bode well for us.
EDIT: It doesnt work on Google Drive. It works after downlaod. Thanks for the suggestion
P.S ^^^ ninja edit right there with 20 seconds left lol. Anyway, thanks for letting me know about Preview.
Do you think we’ll be penalized if the transcript + sat score is a day late? I’m not sure when the mail can get there.
ok I have a question. for the narrative how are we supposed to describe ourselves? Do we include just our interests or do we include background info. I don’t want to brag but I’m scared we’re expected to.
