Clark Scholars 2016

Does anyone know if what we submit should be titled in a specific way? Like Name/Rec Letter/(other stuff?).

Hey guys!

I’m kind of new to Clark Scholars, but I’ve heard that only 12 people get in.

What type of people get in? Do you have to have a lot of research experience or just show passion in one of the STEM fields?

In addition, does being from a uncompetitive state offer applicants any advantages?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I’m applying to Clark Scholars for the first time. For anyone that’s been accepted in years past, do you have any tips on what should be included in the personal narrative? Also, should unorthodox activities be briefly explained? Thanks, and good luck to all applicants!

And how do we send our official score reports for sat subject tests, psat?

I think they get them from your counselor (from the info you input for your counselor).

How do you convert your GPA to a 4.0 scale? Does the program have a specific process if your school doesn’t do it?

@sophie15 Try this out: http://www.collegeboard.com/html/academicTracker-howtoconvert.html

So are you guys following the word limit on the narrative and research interests questions? I can barely explain myself in 300 words!

Yeah I’m following word limit pretty strictly; I don’t want that to be my limiting factor in getting in, you know?

Anyone attaching a separate resume?

I’m sending a short page with STEM-related test scores, awards, and an abstract from a conference paper I did

@coffeeaddicted I wasn’t going to, but I just realized that that was a great idea. I’m going to send in a philosophy essay I wrote for TASP.

@coffeeaddicted also your username is the story of my life

@IneffableMaestro OMG yeah last year I had an actual physical dependency on caffeine and now I only drink it like once a day but still

I just submitted my app at exactly midnight ET. It’s probably ok though, since at TTU it’s 11pm

So, anyone else get an email saying that their application is complete? I just got one today.

On a related note; the program said in its email that it would make final selections by the first part of May. However, I have also applied and gotten accepted into the University of Florida’s SSTP, and that program needs a final payment of $4,500 by April 22. I really want to go to the Clark Scholars program, but if I do not get a response from them by mid-April, then I will be forced to go to SSTP (since I have to pay the fees to secure my spot; otherwise, I get put on a waiting list). Do you think I should email/call Clark Scholars to explain my situation and ask if they can make a decision earlier?

@Keesh99 If you look at threads from last year, you’ll be able to tell that they don’t really do early decisions, especially not this early, but I don’t think it’ll hurt to try. You could probably ask them to make a decision by April 20 or something. Good luck!

Yep, they replied saying that they cannot make an early decision. I guess I’l try talking to SSTP and see if I can potentially get a refund after April 22.

Anyone get results? I did

@coffeeaddicted No, did you get in?

@happyalldatime yeah I did, but I had to say no since I’m going to SSP. I was really shocked, but my essay was really good (essays? I don’t remember if there were multiple) and I think they care a lot about that. Also I sent a resume.
