Class 11th marks

Hey guys I am a class 12 th student in India with the science with maths stream. I want to apply to the ivy league schools and other United States colleges.
I did not do well in class 11th ( got 77.5% ), but in class 9 th and 10 th I got 10 CGPA ( maximum ). I am doing well in class 12 th currently and I have scored 88% in my first mid term paper held in july. I am really confused wether or not I’ll be selected in a good school in the states. I want to pursue engineering ( aerospace ). In India in class 11 th and 12 th the teachers purposely set difficult papers and do strict checking because they want the students to score well in the board examination and also the change from class 10th to 11th is drastic. In class 11th I focused on preparing for the IIT JEE examination and many many extracurriculars. Those were one of the few reasons of low marks. I know it is me who is to be blamed for the goof ups I made. But is there anything I can do to correct it ? Also I will be giving my SAT in October, though I have taken many mock test in which I was scoring 1400+ / 1600.
P.S. if you see the best of 4 percentage in 11 th it is 86% I really messed up my maths examination throughout the year, not because I didn’t know anything, it was because I made silly blunders which caused a huge portion of my marks to be deducted.
Please help me with what should I do now…

Others with more experience will answer.

But in my opinion, numbers like 77.5% and 86% probably mean the short answer is that Ivy League colleges are out of reach. It doesn’t matter that you made silly blunders-- every single kid I’ve ever taught has used a variation of that excuse for grades that were lower than he/she wanted them to be.

As to the others: a big part of this discussion has to include finances. Can your family afford, not only airfare back and forth to the US, but the incredibly high cost of tuition at a US College?

But do they see board marks preferably? Because those are important?

Again, I don’t have enough experience to guide you well. But I do know that scores in the 1400 range on the SAT are typically too low for the Ivies.

Why not address the financial issue, as well as what you’re hoping for in terms of a major. It’s 11AM in New York, which means fairly early for a good part of the country. When more knowledgeable people log on, they’ll have the info they need to better advise you.

Also I have the best grades in 10th and 9th but 11th I messed up big time but 12 th is nice and my predicted score is 95%+

Yes I know but those are the mock papers which I have given and the highest is 1540 / 1600 and sat subject tests I have 800/800 in physics and maths 2

But thanks for your reply

From what I’ve been able to gather most universities take your marks in the context of your educational system and the percentile you’re on is more important than the grades themselves, however, I have no knowledge as to how Ivies look at hs scores.

One thing is sure though, you are going to need 1540+ SAT score and 790+ on both subject tests (whichever you choose) to even get a small chance of being noticed by the top schools.

If you want message me and I’ll give you some suggestions, I’ve spent the past few weeks looking for good universities that offer MechE and/or AeroE and are very friendly towards international students, specially in terms of offering full rides based on GPA and/or test scores.
