Hello! I'm choosing my first semester schedule and have run into a few issues. Here's a primary one: two of the classes I'm very interested in seem to have a sort of overlap: Classics R44 (Roots of Western Civilization) and History 4A (The Ancient Mediterranean World). Does anyone with experience in these departments (or with general common sense) think it would be redundant to take both in the same semester? Would they perhaps even supplement each other? Here are course descriptions:

R44:
This course covers Homeric and Classical Greece, Rome in its transition from republic to empire, and the world of the Old Testament. Lectures, discussions, and reading assignments will involve interdisciplinary approaches with an emphasis on the development of skill in writing.

4A:
This course offers an introductory survey of the history of the ancient Mediterranean world, from the rise of city states in Mesopotamia c.3000 BC to the transformation of the Roman Empire in the 5th and 6th centuries AD. The emphasis will be on the major developments in the political and social history of the ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, with special attention to those institutions, practices, ideas, and objects that have had an enduring influence on the development of western civilization.

Thanks so much! Also, R44 is supposed to be much more detailed, while 4A is much more thematic.
