So, basically I'm taking DOC 3 and MATH 10C in the same slot for spring. I'm planning on blowing off math for DOC lecture and going to math only for quizzes and such. Is this manageable/smart? Does anyone know how hard the concepts get from 10B to 10C? Also, I got A's in both DOC 2 and 10B if that matters. Thanks.

um, you should only overlap discussions. rarely. NEVER lectures.

there are multiple sections of each lecture offered for spring quarter, why did you have to go with such an impossible combination?

(if there’s absolutely no way around it, you should at least attend another professor’s 10C lectures)

I just took 10C, and I felt like it was way easier than 10B. 10C is basically 3D calculus, so you’re gonna spend a lot of time learning about vectors and all that, stuff you should’ve learned in AP physics and even in trig. Partial derivatives also make up a huge part of the course, which you will soon see are very similar (and easy) like normal derivatives from 10A. Integrals don’t really come up in 10C; if they do, they are simple integrals or integrals by parts.

Thanks for the replies you guys!
Astrina: Yeah, well DOC 3 is a GE for Marshall that I pretty much have to take this quarter, and I was locked into this particular time because BILD 2 has only one prof. The reason I can’t take the other DOC lecture is because it would conflict with my CHEM 6C class with Johnson. I’ve become one of those Johnson or nothing people and I have to thank you for recommending her all those months ago, my favorite prof at ucsd thus far So, that’s why I’m locked into this particular math slot. Honestly the only reason I chose to conflict is because for 10B, all I did to study for the midterms was re-do the problems in the book, I literally did not even look at my notes. I may go to the other 10C lecture though.
orangeicecream: Yeah, I’ve heard that 10C is a lot easier than 10B. So, in your opinion, I could definitely get by on getting someone’s notes and doing HW (I took AP Physics in hs).

Do you have Serlin for DOC 3? I have him with discussion at 3PM and I am looking to switch discussion times with someone who has a 9 or 10 o’clock discussion time. Email me if you are interested: loveinthetimeofalmonds@gmail.com

My name is Claire. :)

@gracedpresence,

Yeah, you can get by with just looking at notes and doing the HW. I think this applies to a lot of the math classes here, hah. I didn’t go to lecture often, so I learned from just doing the homework problems and I did well in the course.

Make sure that those classes don’t have conflicting finals times. 9/10 classes with the same lecture times will have the same final times aswell.

Sam: Yeah, that’s actually one of the first things I did; it all works out.

orangeicecream: Thanks a lot for your input!

claire: Yes, I do have Serlin! But, I have the 2PM discussion :(.
